It took me eleven months to use my breadmaker for the first time. After one successful loaf of bread, I was hooked and wanted to make more! Then I read about Kalyn’s #MYOBreadChallenge, perfect timing! Nothing like a challenge for a bit of extra encouragement. I started looking for ideas on Pinterest and am working through recipes for sandwich bread to find a perfect substitute for store bought. I have already made bread twice this month and plan to make one more batch this week.
I tried this recipe for hot dog buns. We only needed a few hot dog buns, so I made six buns and a loaf of bread with the other half of the dough. The buns and bread were fluffy and tasty, but a bit sweet for me.
I might need some practice shaping the hot dog buns, at least the loaf of bread is mostly round.
Next I attempted this recipe from Pinterest. I was also making yogurt at the same time and didn’t consider how the bread and yogurt would share the oven. I had to leave the dough out for 3 hours while the yogurt finished. This created a huge mess in the breadmaker and I suspect may have spoiled the dough. I realized after that the dough would have stored better in the refrigerator. Unlike the photo I pinned, these loaves were dense and very short. We had to improvised with two mini sandwiches for lunch. This recipe deserves another try.
For this week’s bread I am planning to try the hot dog bun recipe again and reduce the sugar.
